Architectural Surfaces Are Moving from Colour Choice to Material Experience

Colour was once the first question in material selection, but architectural surfaces are no longer defined by a colour code alone. Design teams increasingly evaluate performance under changing light, the refinement of texture, joint relationships, panel scale and the way a surface supports the mass of a building.

For Color-Coated Aluminium, hue is only one variable. Gloss level, reflectivity, tactile character and the continuity retained after fabrication can change the reading of an apparently similar colour. Different coating systems and textures can therefore produce very different architectural effects.

Selection is becoming a complete material experience. Samples, details, fabrication and the intended environment should be considered together from the design stage. A stable architectural expression emerges when colour, surface, structure and delivery are treated as one system.
